A Look at Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) - as Applied to Clothing and Other Fabric Items.

What is HTV and how is it applied to my cap or t-shirt?

    • The Process: Vinyl that is used to apply to fabric is more commonly know as HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl)
    • Cutting: Designs are cut using a CNC vinyl cutter machine.
    • Keeping The Good: Once cut, excess vinyl is peeled away, leaving only the desired design on a clear carrier sheet.
    • Application: The design is then placed onto the t-shirt. Heat and pressure are applied using a heat press machine.
    • After cooling: Once pressed, the carrier sheet is removed, leaving the design permanently on the t-shirt.

What are the advantages of using HTV for my cap and t-shirt designs?

    • Durability: Designs created with HTV are highly durable and can withstand repeated washing and wear.
    • Vibrant Colors: HTV offers a wide range of bright, vibrant colors, textures, as well as various prints and luminous, or metal like colors. Most are usually available in both mat and shiny finishes.
    • Professional Finish: Designs made with HTV have a professional-looking finish, enhancing the overall quality of the t-shirt.
    • No Minimum Order Quantity: HTV allows for the creation of custom t-shirts without the need to meet minimum order quantities, making it ideal for individual or small-batch orders.

What are the pitfalls of using HTV for my cap and t-shirt designs

    • Not Ideal for Large Orders: HTV can be time-consuming and labor-intensive for large orders, making it less efficient than other printing methods like DTF printing.
    • Color Limitations: While HTV offers a sizable variety of colors, it does not provide color blending and gradients.
    • Proper care: If laundry guidelines are not correctly followed, the edges of HTV designs may over time begin to fray, crack, crease, or lift.
    • Not Suitable for Complex Designs: Designs with intricate patterns or gradients may not translate well to HTV, leading to a loss of detail or clarity.

If Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) does not fully meet your design requirements, we recommend considering one of these alternative options… Machine Embroidery or Direct To Film Printing (DTF
